In plain English

Told your child “might need OT”? Here’s what that actually means.

Occupational therapy helps kids do the everyday things that matter to them — and it’s rarely as clear as a broken arm. If any of this sounds like your child, you’re in the right place.

Fine motor & handwriting

Grip, cutting, drawing, getting words on the page.

Self-care & independence

Dressing, eating, toileting, doing things “all by myself”.

Sensory sensitivities

Sound, touch, movement and the overwhelm that can come with them.

Big emotions & regulation

Managing frustration, transitions and the wobbles in between.

Making & keeping friends

Reading social cues, joining in, navigating the playground.

Focus & taking part at school

Sitting, attending, and keeping up in the classroom.

How we help

One-on-one, in groups, and alongside you at home.

Every child gets a plan built around their goals — not a one-size program. Here’s how that takes shape.

Individual occupational therapy

One-on-one, clinic-based sessions tailored to your child’s goals, from fine motor and sensory work to self-care, regulation and school participation.

Group programs

Boys Squad (tween boys) and Girls Crew (teen girls) build social thinking, sensory regulation and real friendships in a small, supportive group.

LEGO Based Therapy

Small groups of three, matched by interests and goals, building social communication through collaborative LEGO play (based on Daniel LeGoff’s evidence-informed model).

Parent coaching

Practical strategies you can use at home, so the progress doesn’t stop when the session does.

Telehealth

Video and phone sessions for the weeks getting to the clinic just isn’t going to happen.

School & preschool partnerships

We work alongside teachers and educators to support your child where they spend their day.

Getting started

A clear path from “I’m not sure” to “we’ve got a plan.”

No referral needed to start the conversation. Here’s exactly what happens — including how we look after you while you wait.

01

Get in touch

A quick call or email. Tell us a little about your child and what’s been worrying you. You don’t need a referral to start the conversation.

02

Cuppa and Chat

Our difference

Our families aren’t left in limbo. While you’re on the waitlist, our Cuppa and Chat program keeps you connected and informed, not forgotten.

03

Assessment

We get to know your child — their strengths, their goals, and where the “just right” challenge sits — so therapy is built on who they actually are.

04

Tailored therapy

A plan made around your child and your family, with you involved every step. We’ll adjust as they grow.

Why families choose us

Genuinely good with kids. Seriously good at the work.

OT for Kids is a dedicated paediatric occupational therapy practice in Blacktown, led by Director Sharon Pierce. Sharon is certified in UCLA’s PEERS program through the Semel Institute — a credential held by only a handful of occupational therapists across NSW — and every therapist on the team is AHPRA-registered. We’re a strengths-based, family-centred practice: we start with what your child can do and what they want to do, and we build from there. We’re also a culturally and linguistically diverse team, with interpreting available for NDIS families through TIS National.

Do I need a referral to see an OT?

No referral is needed to get in touch or to see us privately. If you’re using Medicare, you’ll need a GP or paediatrician referral and care plan; for NDIS, you’ll use your existing plan funding. Not sure? Call us and we’ll talk it through.

What ages do you work with?

Children from preschool age through the teen years. Our group programs (like Girls Crew) are designed specifically for older kids and teens.

Do you work with NDIS?

Yes. We’re a registered NDIS provider and work with all three plan types — NDIA-managed, plan-managed and self-managed. We can also help you understand which support category your child’s OT sits under.

How does funding work if we’re not on NDIS?

Many families use Medicare (with a GP or paediatrician referral and a care plan) or claim through their private health fund’s extras cover. We’ll walk you through what applies to your situation.

Is there a waitlist?

Often, yes — good paediatric OT is in high demand in Western Sydney. We’re upfront about it, and our Cuppa and Chat program keeps you connected and supported while you wait, rather than leaving you in the dark.

English isn’t our first language — can you still help?

Absolutely. We’re a culturally and linguistically diverse practice, and NDIS families can access interpreting through TIS National — by phone, pre-booked, or on-site.

Worried about your child? Let’s have a chat.

Tell us a bit about what’s going on and we’ll help you work out whether OT is the right next step. No referral needed to start the conversation, no pressure either way.
